Haring Woods Studio in 2010: new projects, new partners >>

As of 1 May 2010, Haring Woods will be working from a new creative space at Trinity Buoy Wharf, near the Docklands area of East London. Managed by Urban Space Management Ltd since 1998 this centre for the Arts and Creative enterprises was a former buoy manufacturing site. With the modern and unique lines of the Container Cities set amongst the historic Boiler Maker's Shop, Chainstore and Lighthouse the Wharf's inspiring working environment is home to a thriving community of creative individuals and companies, and hosts a wide range of arts and entertainment events.

Through 2010 and beyond we will be producing Place on Earth, our arts led initiative, to capture and share young people’s perceptions on the issues of climate change, governance and rapid urbanisation.  Working in partnership with UN Habitat, city governments, communities and artists around the world, Place on Earth is set to be a major contributor to influencing local and global policy.

The Art of Common Space (part 2) continues our exploration of the meaning and use of common space in our multicultural society with a new focus on the politics of public space and our civil liberties, incorporating the Magna Carta and its 800th anniversary in 2015 as a focal point of the programme. Originated with American artist Robert Wilson in Gunpowder Park, AoCS part 1 produced a series of events in 2008/2009, which is documented on this website.

We have invited a number of colleagues to join the studio to share and play with new ideas about the issues and causes which matter most to us: our public spaces, our civil liberties, our environment, our interdependent world and how the arts must be positioned to influence and affect change. Dr Benjamin Barber and Jan-Gustav Strandenaes have been very active members of the team for some time. Joining as associates and concept developers is Dutch artist Andre Dekker and Observatorium, New York based Kevin Cunningham, Artistic Director of the multi media group 3 Legged Dog, Dr. Loraine Leeson an artist with an  international socially engaged practice, Paul Shepheard, writer and speaker on architecture and life, and Emilio D'Alessio, Italian expert in planning, local government and environment.

Our consultancy, Haring Woods Associates still thrives and responds to clients specific briefs for projects dealing with strategic planning, consultation and policy in the public realm.
