Interdependence Day

Interdependence Day is an international initiative developed by political and cultural theorist Dr Benjamin Barber, (CivWorld and Demos, USA) which raises awareness of the interdependent character of global society and fosters transnational and interdependent solutions to global challenges. Since 2003, seven successful Interdependence Day Celebrations and Forums have been produced in Philadelphia, Rome, Paris, Casablanca, Mexico City, Brussels and Istanbul, with cultural, political, education and faith leaders from around the world attending the programme of scholarly seminars, public debates, artistic performances and exhibitions.

Haring Woods has participated in the event since 2006 in Casablanca.

Haring Woods is helping to focus on the Arts as an inherently cosmopolitan and interdependent genre capable of generating the creativity and imagination active interdependence demands, and hence an institutional starting place for efforts at animating and organizing interdependence in the civic, political and cultural arenas. We will position the arts and culture at the very center of the celebration of interdependence, and use it as a model for others seeking economic, political and civic interdependence.

Eileen Woods is now developing a major new collaborative arts event involving the IDAY participants, launching in Berlin this September.
